- An alliance to continue promoting best practices in the hotel industry
Meliá Hotels International, the leading hotel company in Spain, has announced its membership in Forética, a benchmark organization in sustainability and corporate social responsibility in Spain, which provides knowledge and tools to its more than 200 members to successfully develop competitive and sustainable business models.
Thanks to Forética's holistic vision in the different sectors, Meliá seeks to approach best corporate management practices in the three ESG dimensions (environmental, social and governance) to further strengthen the integration of sustainability into its business strategy. As a benchmark in the international hotel sector, the company has assumed a key role in the transition towards a more responsible tourism model. To this end, it seeks to respond to the challenges of the environment through strategies and initiatives of global scope, aligned with the 2030 Agenda, with the aim of turning its hotels into generators of positive impact and drivers of the economic and social development of the destinations.
According to Lourdes Ripoll, Sustainability Vice President of Meliá Hotels International: "Given the increase in the regulatory framework on sustainability that is already impacting European companies, the role of Forética is key to generate knowledge, exchange business experiences and promote dialogue and alliances in areas as relevant as climate action, circular economy, digital transformation or the contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals, among others. Therefore, we are sure that it will be a fundamental ally to reinforce our commitments and move in the right direction".
For his part, Germán Granda, CEO of Forética, adds that "the incorporation of Meliá Hotels International to Forética means becoming part of an organization with 25 years of experience and an ecosystem of more than 200 partners, in which we work with the aim of increasing business ambition in sustainability, accelerating action to address ESG challenges in the current context and that will impact in the future, and strengthening alliances that allow us to face a sustainable, green and inclusive transformation".
Meliá Hotels International has been recognized in 2024 as the most sustainable hotel company in the world according to TIME magazine, as well as the first in its sector in the ranking of "World's Most Trusted Companies" by Newsweek magazine and Statista. In addition, Meliá once again stood out in the latest Corporate Sustainability Assessment by S&P Global as the hotel company with the best performance in Europe in terms of sustainability.
