Mercasa reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by becoming a Forética partner

Mercasa has signed a membership agreement with Foréticathe leading organization in sustainability and corporate social responsibility in Spain, as part of the reaffirmation of its social commitment to the application of sustainability in the service it provides to all links in the food chain.

Since its origins, the company has oriented its business model and all its activities towards a sustainable and efficient approach with the goal of leading the contribution of value to the food chain and to those who form and benefit from it. In this sense, it works to strengthen the Mercas Network, with excellence in management, facilitating competitiveness, promoting healthy eating based on the criteria of the Mediterranean Diet, concern for the maintenance of biodiversity in varieties and species, transparency, equality and social responsibility, also enabling the personal and professional development of its committed team.

The integration with this new partner will provide Mercasa with expanded knowledge and useful tools to continue applying ESG criteria successfully. Besides, this collaboration with Fóretica connects Mercasa with more than 200 partners of Forética, among which is its shareholder, the Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI). Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI) together with listed companies, multinationals, small and medium-sized enterprises or NGOs with a common mission, which is to integrate the social, environmental and good governance aspects into the strategy and management of companies and organizations.

With a view to projecting into the future the public service activity provided by Mercasa and the Mercas Network to the food chain and to respond to the most urgent challenges of today, the company will participate in different forums and working groups, such as the Action on Sustainability and CSR in Public Companies. This will be a beneficial exchange of knowledge and will allow the company to share its initiatives and discover the best practices developed by other companies in the field of sustainability.

This agreement is another step forward in Mercasa's ESG policy, which reinforces its sustainable positioning to minimize the impact of its public service on the environment and promote economic and social development. It is in addition to the annual publication of the Sustainability Report that demonstrates to society how the company is working to meet its sustainability objectives and how it continues to invest and drive change to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
