Forética, a leading business organization in the field of sustainability in Spain, presents the report Green Jobs and Just Transition in the Future of Work'. within the framework of the 'JOBS 2030 - Future of Work' project - led by ManpowerGroup, with the collaboration of Fundación ONCE and PRISA.

According to data collected in the report and according to the International Labor Organization (ILO), Europe has the potential to create between 700,000 and 1,000,000,000 green jobs over the next ten years if the European Green Pact is successfully implemented throughout the European Union. It is estimated that there are around 4.5 million jobs linked to the environmental economy in Europe. Of this total, Spain represents approximately 9.6%, making it the third largest economy in the Eurozone in terms of contribution to green jobs. In this sense, Spain has a good perspective of growth and development in the context of green economy in comparison with other countries at European level.

Germán Granda, CEO of Forética, states: "The current global economic context and the consequent increase in social awareness that arose as a result of the pandemic generated by COVID-19, are marking the beginning of an era of transformation and evolution towards a green economy, which is motivated by the fight against the climate crisis and with the welfare of people and social inclusion as the central axis. This global trend aims to bring about a 'Sustainable Reshaping' of our economy and society, guided by governments and businesses to respond to the global challenges of economic development, climate emergency and social inequality. Through the project 'JOBS 2030 - Future of Work', from Forética we promote ways forward and a framework for action to accelerate the commitments of companies with a just transition to green jobs".

Within the framework of the 'JOBS 2030 - Future of Work' project, Forética is building a Spanish observatory of green employment and just transition with the aim of analyzing the situation of green employment in Spanish companies, proposing ways forward and a roadmap with the main elements of action and highlighting the good practices of leading organizations. This reportthe first document published within the framework of the observatory, reviews the keys to understanding the depth of the changes we are facing, learning about the most relevant international initiatives and preparing our organizations to make the most of the opportunities that are opening up, focusing on people and the social 'S', leaving no one behind.

The business response to the green jobs challenge

80% of Spanish organizations today have difficulty finding professionals with the required skills, according to data from the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Projection Study. Thus, the mismatch of talent in our country reaches the highest level of the last 12 years and exceeds by 15 points the figure collected only a year ago by the company.

Ricardo Trujillo, Manager of the 'JOBS 2030 - Future of Work' project at Forética, emphasizes: "At Forética we want to highlight the importance of directing our efforts so that the training and development of talent is carried out in a fair and inclusive manner, in which development opportunities are given to all the people who are affected by this transformation of the economy and the labor market. It is necessary to invest in the development of green skills and talent, through the collaboration of all the actors involved, so that the workforce is the main asset in achieving the climate and environmental goals set by Spain and Europe, and in no case becomes an obstacle".

The objective of the second edition of the 'JOBS 2030 - Future of Work ' project - led by ManpowerGroup, in collaboration with Fundación ONCE and PRISA - is to create a space for dialogue, knowledge and business trends on the implications, challenges and opportunities that the green transition will have on the future of work, and what mechanisms need to be accelerated to promote a just transition.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Economy institutionally supports the project, in alliance with WBCSD and CSR Europe. The regional governments of Aragón, Canarias, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, La Rioja, Comunidad de Madrid, Región de Murcia and Navarra, together with the Cabildo de Tenerife are also institutional partners of the initiative.

As collaborating organizations, the 'JOBS 2030 - Future of Work' project counts on the Chamber of Cantabria, the Andalusian Business Confederation (CEA), the Madrid Business Confederation (CEIM), the Asturian Quality Club, the Responsible and Sustainable Business Club of the Valencian Community (CERS), Eticentre, Respon.cat and Visión Responsable, with the aim of maximizing the impact of the initiative at regional and local level.

The second edition of the project is articulated along three axes: ambition, seeking to encourage more and better commitments of organizations to green employment and just transition; action, making visible and bringing together strategies and leading projects in the field; and alliances, opening a space for dialogue between companies, public institutions and the third sector to seek common points of action.

As part of the first edition of the project, Forética selected a total of 40 business initiatives that respond to the challenges posed by the future of work, in three strategic dimensions: Technological transformation focused on people; promotion and development of talent, skills and knowledge; and diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
